The fast-growing Orchid-Tree will ultimately reach35 feet in height and width, the slender trunks toppedwith arching branches clothed in large, two-lobed,deciduous leaves. In fall, before the leavesdrop, Orchid-Tree is festooned with many showy anddelightfully fragrant, five-inch-wide blossoms, thenarrow purple, pink, and lavender petals arranged toclosely resemble an orchid. These flowers appear onthe trees from September through November and are abeautiful sight to see, creating a vivid splash of colorin the autumn landscape. The flowers are followed by12-inch-long, slender, brown, flat seedpods whichusually persist on the tree throughout the winter, thenfall to create a mess to clean up. The spectacularflower display makes orchid-tree a favorite forspecimen plantings.
