Kumquot is an evergreen shurbs or trees of the family Rutaceae, grown for their tart orange fruits. A kumquat isn’t much bigger than a grape, yet this bite-sized fruit fills your mouth with a big burst of sweet-tart citrus flavor. The English name “kumquat” comes from a Cantonese word that means “golden orange” or “golden tangerine”. They are packed with fiber and Vitamin C and are low in calories. They’ve got some calcium, Vitamin A, riboflavin, iron, manganese and potassium, to boot. In traditional Chinese medicine, kumquats are said to help with sore throats, excessive phlegm and coughs.
